How it works
The capsules contain loperamide hydrochloride, a substance that helps reduce diarrhoea by slowing down an overactive bowel. This allows water and salts that are usually lost in diarrhoea to be absorbed by the body.
Usage And Safety
Dosage
Acute diarrhoea : Adults : Initially 4mg, then 2mg at each loose stool ( usually 3-4 daily). Max, 16mg daily. Chronic diarrhoea : Adults : Initially 4-8mg, daily in divided doses. Children : Not for children aged under 12. OR As directed by your physician.
Side Effects
Common: (may affect up to 1 in 10 people) : Feeling sick, constipation or wind. Headache. Uncommon: (may affect up to 1 in 100 people) : Dizziness or drowsiness. Vomiting, indigestion. Dry mouth. Rare: (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people) : Tiredness.
Drug Interactions
Ritonavir , quinidine , oral desmopressin , itraconazole or ketoconazole , gemfibrozil.
Indication
It is used to treat sudden (acute) diarrhoea or long-lasting (chronic) diarrhoea.
