Loratadine 1mg/ml syrup/suspension is a second-generation antihistamine that selectively blocks peripheral histamine H1 receptors. It acts by competitively binding to these receptors, preventing the attachment of histamine, thereby reducing or preventing the effects mediated by histamine. This mechanism helps to alleviate symptoms associated with allergic reactions, such as allergic rhinitis and urticaria. Loratadine is designed to be less able to cross the blood-brain barrier, which reduces the risk of causing drowsiness, a common side effect of first-generation antihistamines.
