Migraine

How it works

Migraine symptoms may be caused by swollen blood vessels in the head. It is thought to reduce the widening of these blood vessels. This helps to take away the headache and other symptoms of a migraine attack, such as feeling of being sick (nausea or vomiting) and being sensitive to light and sound.

Usage And Safety

Dosage

Adults : Initially 2.5mg as soon as possible after the onset of attack. If symptoms persists or return , a repeat dose may be given at an interval of at least 2 hr. If the response is inadequate , increase to 5mg doses for subsequent attacks. Recurrent attacks, max 10mg in 24hr. Children : Not recommended or as directed by your physician.

Side Effects

Myocardial ischemia, myocardial infarction, and prinzmetal’s angina , arrhythmias , chest, throat, neck, and/or jaw pain/tightness/pressure , cerebrovascular events , other vasospasm reactions , medication overuse headache , serotonin syndrome , increase in blood pressure , hypersensitivity reactions , seizures.

Drug Interactions

• Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) • serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) • tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) • monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
